THE Public Health Ministry said this morning (May 2) there were 1,940 coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, up from 1,583 yesterday, while 21 patients had died, same number as yesterday, taking the death toll to 245, Sanook.com said.
Meanwhile a Covid cluster appeared at an ice factory in Prachin Buri province with 22 falling sick in one day. The ice has been seized with a sample sent for testing and the rest being destoryed.
The new batch of cases took the cumulative confirmed total to 68,984. However 39,481 patients have been cured while 29,481 are undergoing treatment.
Of today’s 1,940 cases, 539 emerged in Bangkok. Ten of them were overseas arrivals who were either hospitalised or quarantined with the rest being domestic cases with 1,788 appearing service systems and 142 found through proactive tests in communities.
Giving details about the new cluster in Prachin Buri this morning was the Dr. Chokchai Sakornpanich, the provincial doctor, who said 22 of 23 cases appearing in this province over the past day were clustered at an ice factory. This took the provincial cumulative total to 6,056 with 156 patients currently hospitalised while 39 have been cured.
Samples of this factory’s ice had been sent to the Public Health Ministry’s Medical Science Department for testing. Experts had been consulted on infection control, cleaning and disinfecting this plant. After this work is completed swab samples of equipment surface will be sent to the department to examination.
This factory has been temporarily closed for 14 days and all employees are being tested. Those infected will be treated in hospital while others quarantined for 14 days.
