Protesters set up camp near Government House to push 4 demands

THE “Walk Through the Sky V.2” protest march reached an area near the Government House this afternoon (March 13) where they announced the setup of a camp where they intend to stay till their four demands are met, Thai Rath Newspaper said.

The protesters, who walked down from the Democracy Monument, reached the same point where the People Movement for Just Society (P-move) and Karen villagers had previously staged rallies.

Containers had been placed and concertina razor wire rolled out at Chamai Maruchet Bridge near the Government House amid tight security mounted by police.

Representatives of the protests said they will stay overnight and admitted that their action is aimed at pressuring the authorities but that they had come in peace.

Their four demands are as follows:

  1. Release their friends;
  2. Write a new constitution;
  3. Repeal Section 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law;
  4. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha step down.

 Later at 3.07 p.m. when the protesters’ representatives announced the establishment of their village, they also mentioned that the people participating in this demonstration had been screened according to the public health measures.
