39 new domestic coronavirus cases excluding foreign workers

THE spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced late this morning (Dec. 23) that there were 39 new Covid-19 cases within the country over the past 24 hours excluding foreign workers with their total being issued this afternoon, Amarin TV reported.

Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin, CCSA’s spokesman, said seven travellers from overseas too were quarantined with two of them arriving from the UK and one each from Bahrain, Myanmar, Russia, the US and Pakistan.

All the 39 domestic cases were linked to the central shrimp market in Samut Sakhon from where this new outbreak emerged. 

Eleven cases cropped up in Bangkok, five in Chachoengsao, three in Nakhon Pathom, two each in Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Prachinburi, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan and Saraburi as well as one each in  Phetchabun, Krabi, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Phuket and Suphanburi.

Total confirmed cases now stand at 5,762 with 4,095 discharged from various hospitals while 1,607 are still undergoing treatment.  The death toll remains unchanged at 60.
