University head denies getting student arrested without a warrant

SILPAKORN University President Mr. Chaichan Thavornvech denied having filed a complaint against his own student leading him being arrested without a warrant, Sanook.com reported today (Nov. 23, 2020).

Chaicharn said in a  Facebook post published at noon today that he did not contact the police during the four-day holiday and only at 7 a.m. this morning did he find out that one of his students had been arrested.

He added that he has instructed university administrators to support and stay with the student.

This move came after the Centre for Human Rights Lawyers said the student from the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture was arrested from his dormitory without a warrant on Sunday morning. It is suspected the arrest stems from paint being splashed on the university sign in front of the campus.

The student broadcast live at 11 p.m. last night that he was being held at Crime Investigation Division Provincial Police Region 7 at Ban Pong district in Ratchaburi province.

Later, news spread on social media that the person who got the student arrested was Chaicharn, but he has come out to deny this.
