Protesters start flocking to Victory Monument

THE People’s Party demonstrators started gathering at Victory Monument area from 3.50 p.m. onwards  today (Oct. 18) after the Facebook page of the Free Youth group confirmed the rally at this location with a smaller one in Asoke area from 4 p.m. onwards, Thai Rath newspaper reported.

The message also mentioned assembly points at various provinces across the country.

At 3:55 p.m., the demonstrators were told to come down to the road from the skywalk and the pedestrian overpass with BTS later closing this station.

At 4:16 p.m., reporters noticed that some protesters had brought megaphones, microphones and portable speakers along with them.

As announced by the People’s Party and the Free Youth group rallies are to take place in the following provinces:

Central region: Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Saraburi, Singburi, Suphanburi and Prachinburi.

Northeast region: Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Yasothon, Udon Thani, Sisaket and Kalasin.

Eastern region: Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi and Rayong.

South: Phuket.

At 2:20 p.m. the MRT operator announced that it was necessary to temporarily close five Blue Line stations from 2.30 p.m. onwards, namely: 

1.Hua Lamphong 2. Lumpini 3. Sukhumvit 4. Phaholyothin and 5. Chatuchak Park. 

BTS Skytrain operator had also announced temporary closure of 10 stations from 2.30 p.m. onwards, namely:

Sukhumvit Line 1. Mo Chit 2. Lat Phrao 3. Phahonyothin 24 4. Asoke 5. Udom Suk 6. Bang Na 7. Chong Nonsi 8. Surasak 9. Krung Thon Buri and 10. Wong Wian Yai.
