BHUMJAITHAI MP Suchada Zhang Tansap might probably be charged with getting “unusually rich” and concealing a total, factual amount of assets which she may share with her spouse Taiyang Zhang, a serial entrepreneur in crypto industry and online casino business who is currently suspected of involvement in a transnational money-laundering scam.

House Committee on Law, Justice & Human Rights Chair/People’s MP Rangsiman Rome said today (Oct.7) the woman lawmaker of the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government, might probably face charges in court of getting “unusually rich” and concealing personal assets since she has yet failed to truthfully clarify them to the public after her spouse, an Australian national of Chinese descent, has been suspected to have been covertly involved in the money-laundering racket allegedly in relation to a sum of about 1.9 billion baht in shared assets earlier declared to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

“Given the current status as a public figure, Suchada was dutifully obliged to give an evident, factual clarification to the sources of her declared assets in response to any unsettled suspicions surrounding her spouse and herself. But if she failed to do so, she might probably be charged with getting unusually rich and illegally concealing her wealth,” the House committee chair remarked.

Rangsiman apparently referred to the evident sources of Suchada’s and Taiyang’s shared incomes as formally declared to the NACC, the allegations of the lawmaker’s spouse having laundered either part or all of a sum of 1.4 billion baht in loan provided to a bankrupt, Singaporean-based crypto trading firm, namely Three Arrows Capital, a yet-undisclosed amount of profit money from his online casino business, namely Natural Nine BV Casinos, based in the British Virgin Islands, to Thailand and her reported ownership of a 3.3 million baht luxury watch which was nowhere on the list of their declared assets.

Suchada, a former secretary to the Bhumjaithai-attached Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, has earlier said she would most certainly respond to those scandals surrounding her husband and herself “once and for all.” But she did not show up to testify before Rangsiman’s committee at parliament today (Oct.7).

Without naming names, the House committee chair suggested the Bhumjaithai-attached Justice Minister Rutthapon Naowarat manage to have such scandalous scams involving his partisan colleague thoroughly investigated by the authorities and stop whitewashing his partisan colleague.

Rutthapon has earlier excused that Taiyang could have owned and operated online casinos in the Caribbean Sea region where such businesses are legal as starkly opposed to those in Thailand.

According to the House committee chair, the justice minister’s latest comments in defence of the first-time MP of Chaiyapum could probably discourage officials of the Department of Special Investigation and the NACC, among others, from launching an in-depth, truthful probe into the suspected scam on the part of her spouse.

Rangsiman suspected that Taiyang could possibly manage to illegally lure any gamblers in this country into placing bets with his online casinos, completely unaware of his personal background and nuptial relationship with the woman legislator.

He said the authorities such as the DSI as well as “independent” agencies set up under the constitution’s organic laws such as the anti-graft agency be completely unhindered and free to delve into such transnational money-laundering scams and other complicated wrongdoings, especially involving any suspected politicians.
