TAIYANG ZHANG, spouse of Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zhang Tansap, was reportedly found to own online casinos overseas, thus fueling suspicions of his having been involved in a transnational money-laundering scam.

Taiyang, an Australian national of Chinese descent, was reported to have ownership of the highly lucrative casinos, namely Natural Nine BV Casinos, based in the British Virgin Islands and would undoubtedly reap huge profits from his online gambling business, according to former Democrat MP Sirichok Sopa.

Significantly, the Bhumjaithai MP’s spouse might allegedly have a yet-unknown amount of money from his casino business laundered and transferred to Thailand or elsewhere at any given time.

Given the circumstances under which any casino businesses, either online or in gambling dens, are ultimately illegal in Thailand, Taiyang would be obliged to truthfully clarify whether he may have completely transferred his ownership of those casinos or still hold it, albeit in covert, launderable fashion, Sirichok remarked.

But no profits from those online casinos, albeit operated outside of this country, would most certainly have been earlier declared to the National Anti-Corruption Commission as part of an estimated 1.9 billion baht in assets shared between Taiyang and the first-time legislator of the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government.

The couple were formally summoned by the House Committee on Law, Justice & Human Rights for testimony at parliament tomorrow (Oct.7) in regard to allegations that he may have been more or less involved in the transnational money-laundering scam.

However, neither the woman lawmaker of Chaiyapum nor her spouse would be unlikely to show up before the House committee chaired by People’s MP Rangsiman Rome whom she had earlier dared to produce evidence to substantiate allegations against her scam-suspected spouse.

The Bhumjaithai MP’s spouse who had been originally known as serial entrepreneur in crypto industry had contentiously loaned 1.4 billion baht to Three Arrows Capital, a Singaporean-based crypto trading firm which was declared bankrupt by a British Virgin Islands court.

He had been earlier associated with certain crypto hedge fund fraudsters who were convicted and sentenced to terms in prison in the United States including Stefan Qin of Virgil Capital and Sam Bankman-Fried of FTX and Alameda Research.
