NATIONAL Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet today (March 26) ordered an urgent investigation into alleged hacking of traffic ticket data including one ticket supposedly issued to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul as mentioned on the widely-followed Facebook page CSI LA, Naewna newspaper said.
According to this Facebook page, a hacker had breached the Police Department system then extracted and distributed the traffic ticket data with other members of a hacker group using Discord instant messaging app.
Asked why personal data was hacked and disseminated publicly, Pol. Gen. Kittirat said he needed time to investigate the facts, specifically how the hacker’s system worked and the data obtained with Pol. Gen. Nirandon Lueamsri, the Deputy Police Chief, having been assigned to thoroughly investigate who was responsible for this leak and where it occurred.
Regarding the possibility of internal personnel being involved in leaking the information, Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasised that accessing other people’s personal information is a serious issue and it must be investigated whether there were any violations of the Computer Crime Act or other laws.
It is also not possible for ordinary people to access other individuals’ traffic tickets, he said, adding the public should download the Police Care application to check their traffic ticket history.
This is a useful app because sometimes traffic tickets are sent to the violator’s home but for some reason they did not receive it and it is here that they can stay informed and comply with the law.
Pol. Gen. Nirandon has also been told to look into the joint electronic operation with the Land Transport Department in providing service to the public.
