People’s most popular, Nattapong most favourite for PM: Rajabhat Poll

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

MOST PROSPECTIVE voters have expressed their preferences for the People’s whose party leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut has emerged as the most favourite for prime minister whilst Caretaker Prime Minister/Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul who is seeking to prolong his rule after the Feb.8 election is far less favourite, according to the latest Rajabhat Poll.

The Rajabhat Poll, conducted recently by 38 Rajabhat universities among 11,700 people of varied ages and from all walks of life throughout the country, has found 38.8% of the respondents say they will vote the People’s, compared to 17.9% who say they will vote the Pheu Thai and 15.6% say they will pick the Bhumjaithai, currently core of the caretaker government.

The opinion poll has found 36.7% of the respondents say they prefer to see the reformist party’s leader named prime minister, compared to 15.9% who say they endorse de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra’s nephew, namely Yodchanan Wongsawat, for head of a post-election government and 15.2% say they prefer that the caretaker prime minister/Bhumjaithai leader remain in power beyond the nationwide election.

The poll has also found 71.6% of the respondents say they will pick contestants running in constituency-based mode from the same party as the one that they will choose in party-listed mode and 67.8% say they will endorse the proposed rewriting of the coup junta-designed constitution in a public referendum to be held alongside the election for MPs.

The reformist People’s is the most favourite among prospective voters in the central, northern, northeastern and eastern regions whilst the neo-conservative Pheu Thai is the most favourite in the western region, the Old School conservative Democrats led by former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is the most popular in the southern region and the ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai relatively not so popular in any specific region as their rival camps, according to the Rajabhat Poll.

However, the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob is invariably anticipated to sweep all 10 northeastern constituencies of Buriram, his family’s home province and his camp’s largest stronghold.
