UBON RATCHATHANI – Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul today (Jan.27) promised prospective voters in the lower northeastern province that he will literally build a wall between Thailand and Cambodia to keep out any territorial intruders in the future if he comes back as head of government after the Feb.8 election.
Addressing villagers in Constituency 7 of the lower northeastern province, Anutin who concurrently acts as leader of the Bhumjaithai, core of the caretaker government, publicly vowed to see to it that a concrete wall will be literally erected along the border in Nam Yuen district opposite Preah Vihear province in Cambodia to keep out any aggressive troops from the other side of the border.
Given the circumstances under which armed clashes had occurred along the disputed border between Thai and Cambodia forces in four lower northeastern provinces and three eastern provinces over the past months including those in Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani, Anutin alleviated fears of local villagers that Cambodian troops could possibly open fire at the sought-after wall along the border, saying he has rested assured that such incidents would not take place.
“They would not dare to do it again because we have already re-established territorial integrity and will no longer tolerate any armed threats along the shared border ranging from Ubon Ratchathani to Chanthaburi and Trat,” Anutin told the cheering crowd, referring to the Cambodian intruders.
The caretaker prime minister was today wooing votes for a couple of ex-MPs who are seeking re-election under the Bhumjaithai banners, namely Sudarat Pithakpornpallop who defected from the Pheu Thai and is running in Constituency 7 and Nan Boontida Somchai vying in Constituency 8.
Meanwhile, a trio members of the Jintawech family, one of Ubon Ratchathani’s “Big Houses”, are contesting in three different constituencies of the lower-northeastern province under the tickets of three different parties.
Remarkably, the three contesting cousins are children of three Jintawech brothers, namely Panya, Sakchai and Toon, all of who had been elected lawmakers of Ubon Ratchathani over past decades.
In Constituency 4, Putthachat Jintawech, daughter of Sakchai Jintawech, is running under the People’s tickets against archrivals, namely Kitthanya Wachadee who is seeking re-election under the Pheu Thai banners and former deputy interior minister Supon Fongngam who is seeking re-election under the Klatham banners.
In Constituency 9, Prapusak Jintawech, son of Panya Jintawech, is vying under the Pheu Thai tickets against archrivals, namely ex-MP Rampool Tantiwanitchanon who has switched from the Thai Ruam Palang to the Klatham to seek re-election and Thai Ruam Palang founder/ex-MP Jitrawan Wangsupakitkosol who is seeking re-election under the relatively small-sized camp’s banners.
In Constituency 11, Tuangthip Jintawech is the only ex-MP of the Jintawech family who is seeking re-election under the Bhumjaithai tickets.
