ANOTHER PEOPLE’S candidate contesting the Feb.8 election in Tak has been arrested for alleged involvement in money-laundering activity.
Ratchapong Soisuwan, the ex-People’s MP who is seeking re-election in Constituency 2 of the northwestern border province, was yesterday (Jan.14) arrested in Bangkok by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau police on charges of involvement in the money-laundering business allegedly based on online gambling activity.
People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut said today (Jan.15) the reformist party had not found any criminal records about the suspect before he applied to run in the nationwide race to parliament.
However, Nattapong said his party invariably adheres to the zero-tolerance principle against corruption and crime with a campaign slogan saying “We Are Without Grey”, referring to all illegal businesses and will by no means defend such criminal suspects.
Late last month, another People’s candidate, namely Boonrit Raoroongroj, was arrested for alleged involvement in money-laundering activity, prompting the party to replace him with another to contest in Constituency 33 of the capital.
