Thailand monitoring Venezuela situation while Sam Rainsy says Hun Sen is next in line

WITH US having captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York City to face drugs and weapons charges in Manhattan federal court next week the Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry said it is closely monitoring this situation while former Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy said in an online post that Cambodian leader Hun Sen is next in line to be captured, PPTVHD36 said this evening (Jan. 4).

Thailand called on all parties involved to resolve the conflict peacefully, respect the UN Charter and international law, exercise restraint to avoid escalating violence, prioritise the protection of civilians, and respect the will of the Venezuelan people.

The Thai embassy in Lima, Peru, which is responsible for Venezuela, is closely coordinating with Thai citizens in Venezuela and is ready to provide assistance if necessary. The Foreign Affairs Ministry also advises Thai citizens who do not have urgent reasons to travel to the area at this time to reconsider their travel plans.

After the Foreign Affairs Ministry posted this statement, many Thais commented, such as: “Don’t forget to include the term ‘Roadside Accident’ out of concern,” “This statement sounds familiar,” “I like it a million times,” and “It would be great if (Malaysian Prime Minister) Anwar (Ibrahim) and the two Hun family members acted as mediators.”

Another person who stirred up controversy was Sam Rainsy, the former Cambodian opposition leader, who posted a picture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro with Hun Sen on Facebook, along with a short caption stating, “The United States arrests Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, the leader of the world’s largest drug crime network. Soon he will take action against the online fraud and money laundering network.”
