Trump threatens necessary legal action to end Thai-Cambodian clashes

A WHITE House spokesperson said today (Dec. 14) US President Donald Trump will be taking necessary legal action against those responsible for the fighting at Thai-Cambodian border continuing despite his phone call to both Thai Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Friday, Amarin TV said.

The White House spokesperson stated in a press release that, “President Trump expects all parties to fully fulfill their obligations as signed in these agreements, and he will take necessary action against those responsible to end the killings and build lasting peace.”

It remains unclear what form this action will take.

Trump had attended a signing ceremony of an expanded ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Oct. 26  after his threats of economic pressure prodded the two nations to halt five days of fighting in July.

Anutin sent a message to US President Donald Trump via a Facebook post countering his statement that the roadside bomb that originally killed and wounded numerous Thai soldiers was an accident pointing out that it was not merely an accident and Thai soldiers will not stop firing,

Trump’s posting on his Truth Social page on Friday is as follows:

“I had a very good conversation this morning with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, concerning the very unfortunate reawakening of their long-running War. They have agreed to CEASE all shooting effective this evening, and go back to the original Peace Accord made with me, and them, with the help of the Great Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim. The roadside bomb that originally killed and wounded numerous Thai Soldiers was an accident, but Thailand nevertheless retaliated very strongly. Both Countries are ready for PEACE and continued Trade with the United States of America. It is my Honor to work with Anutin and Hun in resolving what could have evolved into a major War between two otherwise wonderful and prosperous Countries! I would also like to thank the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, for his assistance in this very important matter.”

Anutin’s post at 9.30 a.m. Saturday morning is as follows:

“It’s definitely not a roadside accident. Thailand will continue to perform military actions until we feel no more harm and threats to our land and people. I want to make it clear. Our actions this morning already spoke.”

Meanwhile the Thai Military Command Centre this afternoon ordered a “blockade of the Gulf of Thailand” to intercept oil and military supplies smuggled to Cambodia, and declared a “territorial sea” around Cambodian ports a high-risk area, Naewna newspaper said.

To ensure effective military operations the Military Command Center had at a meeting on Friday resolved to take action against Thai vessels and/or Thai operators using Thai vessels, or vessels registered under other nationalities, to transport and export fuel or strategic goods to Cambodia by sea. This is intended to weaken and reduce the Cambodian capability and capacity to threaten Thailand.
