FIERCE fighting is continuing across all fronts along the Thai-Cambodian border this morning (Dec. 12) with Thai troops firing artillery and mortars at Khmer positions, according to two posts on Army Military Force Facebook page.
The sounds of explosions can be heard kilometres away while some Cambodian soldiers who were badly injured were wrapped in bandages and now look like mummies, one of the two posts shared at 6.30 a.m. said.
The second post, shared at 7.30 a.m., said heavy fighting is raging at Kantharalak district of Sisaket province; Chong Bok and Chong An Ma areas of Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province; Chong Chom border town in Surin province; Ban Kruat district in Buriram province; and Ta Phraya district plus former refugee camp Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo province. Thai troops are relentlessly shelling Cambodian positions.
Meanwhile a Cambodian couple was arrested at Chamrak subdistrict , Mueang Trat district, around noon yesterday after they were caught filming a route and military camps with their mobile phone, Amarin TV said.
During initial questioning, the couple denied being spies, stating they were Cambodian citizens with immigration documents residing in Khlong Yai district and working as cleaners. They denied filming the route and military camps, claiming their relatives were coming but could not find their way.
Thai officials did not believe their claims as there it was not necessary to film these areas. Furthermore, they were speaking in Cambodian language via the woman’s mobile phone, but the man’s phone could not be accessed due to a lack of signal.
Their phones were seized and information will be used for prosecution on charges of espionage for disseminating information about the security forces, with further investigation continuing.
