Car smashes through car park wall in dramatic crash

A CAR dangled precariously at a Rama IV road car park last night (Jan. 20) after the driver smashed through a wall upon accidently pressing the accelerator pedal while reaching for something at the back seat, PPTVHD36 said.

The accident occurred at around 9 p.m. within a seven-storey car park at the Klong Toei stretch of this road with the grey sedan with a Bangkok licence plate suspended preciously on the edge after crashing through the third floor wall alarming onlookers.

Fortunately the driver, Mr. Thaweep (surname withheld), 55, only suffered minor injuries as his vehicle swayed dangerously at the edge of the car park with the air bag deployed.

He was assisted by volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and taken to Thep Tharin Hospital.

The building’s security guard said the driver had parked at a spot just across from the wall he crashed through.  After getting in upon returning home from work he reached for something at the back seat and in doing so intended to press the brake pedal but mistakenly hit the accelerator, leading to the dramatic accident.

Rescue workers and a disaster relief team used equipment to secure the vehicle in preventing it from falling to the ground and it was 20 minutes after midnight that they successfully towed it back into the building.
