Anutin declares ‘peace is over’ and rips up peace pact with Cambodia

PRIME Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul declared while visiting Intuman (Phu Makhuea) Operation Base at Kantharalak district, Sisaket province, today (Nov. 11) that the agreement reached with Cambodia to move towards peace is over and the Thai government will proceed with what is seen to be beneficial for the country without discussing with anyone, Naewna newspaper said this evening.

During a meeting with the military this morning a fairly clear conclusion was reached regarding the implementation process with the Defence Ministry already knowing exactly what needs to be done but this cannot be divulged as it involves national security, he said.

“So today, as the government that signed the declaration, clearly Thailand is no longer following the four points of this declaration and we will determine our own actions with the government fully supporting the requirements and actions of the military,” Anutin said.

Asked if Malaysia should suggest reviving the peace agreement would Thailand agree to revise it, Anutin replied it is clear that the signatories have not adhered to the declaration and he has seen with his own eyes Cambodia has violated its obligations.

The four landmines Khmer troops laid in Thai territory which injured four Thai soldiers yesterday morning are now down to three after one exploded when a soldier stepped on it, he said, with these being new mines planted in Thai territory after the agreement was signed.

Asked whether Thailand would have to report to US President Donald Trump, who jointly signed the peace agreement with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Anutin replied that he would not report to anyone because Thailand is a sovereign country.

“We’re upholding our sovereignty, honour, dignity, and the spirit of the soldiers and our fellow citizens, I’m here today to let the picture speak for itself. There’s no need to say a lot about a lot things,” he said.
