THREE Thai soldiers got injured after stepping on a landmine, with one having severed his left ankle, as they were on a routine patrol in Sisaket province this morning (Aug. 9) while a large cache of ammunintion was found in Pumakhua area of this same province, Amarin TV said.
At 10 a.m. as the 111th Infantry Company was patrolling a route between Don Aow and Kritsana to install barbed so as to protect this area they hit the landmine with three of them getting injured.
They were identified as:
– Sgt. Maj. Thani Paha, whose lower left ankle was severed;
– Private Phakphum Chaisura, who sustained injuries to his arm and back;
– Private Thanachai Kraiwong, who sustained a crushing blow and an eardrum injury.
The Thai army also released photos of a large cache of ammunition found at Pumakhua, particularly PMN2 landmines.
The accompanying caption said: “Engineers from the Third Army Region supported the Second Army Region in cleaning up the battlefield in Pumakhua area. A large amount of Cambodian ammunition, particularly PMN2 landmines, was discovered.
“Why did Heng Ratana (Director of the National Mine Action Agency of Cambodia) say they didn’t use landmines, but Thailand seized a large amount?”
