Cambodian troops intentionally provoke Thai soldiers to film social media clips

THE THAI Second Army Region accused Cambodian soldiers of deliberately crossing over to Thai territory then provoking Thai troops to capture video clips and share on social media to show Cambodians they can intimidate the Thai side, Amarin TV said today (July 5).

Meanwhile the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation today released an  eight-point declaration urging Thailand to accept the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice for a lasting resolution of the border conflict.

In this new provocation along the border a patrol unit from the 2304th Ranger Company ran into Cambodian soldiers at “Phu Phi” viewpoint, in Kantharalak district, Si Sa Ket province, which is located in a claimed area along the border near Prasat Don Tuan and Prasat Preah Vihear temples.

During the encounter the Cambodian troops talked provocatively to Thai soldiers leading to an argument with three to four Cambodian troops filming this encounter from various angles

The Cambodian soldiers also threatened to use force during the argument as they tried to dominate the Thai unit.

The Second Army Region said this is clearly setting a stage to get video clips to show Cambodian citizens that their military can suppress the Thai armed forces.

The Thai military is well aware of the Cambodians’ strategy and is ready to respond in protecting the sovereignty of Thailand fully without being careless in any way.

A heated argument had erupted at Prasat Ta Muen Thom temple on Feb. 25 this year with a Thai guide trading barbs with Cambodian soldiers after a group of Cambodian soldiers and civilians were filmed singing their national anthem at this temple a few days earlier with a video clip of this incident going viral online.
