THE INTERIOR Ministry today (June 4) sent urgent letters to governors of seven provinces adjacent to Cambodia to implement four measures in boosting the safety of the people and arrange resources and personnel to support troops on security missions along the border, Naewna newspaper said.
Ms. Traisuree Traisaranakul, the ministry’s spokesperson, said Deputy Prime Minister/Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had issued this order and urgent letters were then sent to the governors of the following seven provinces:
+ Trat
+ Chanthaburi
+ Sa Kaeo
+ Ubon Ratchathani
+ Sisaket
+ Surin
+ Buriram
The message stated that after the clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers at Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani province, on May 28, 2015 preventive measures have been boosted at Thai-Cambodian border checkpoints and other areas in bracing for possible escalating incidents.
The governors were told that to ensure peace, order and security within the country and protect the people these four measures should be implemented:
+ The highest priority is ensuring the safety of the people by assessing the situation and the number dwellings in risk areas. Evacuation plans should be explained to them and gathering points plus shelters in safe areas arranged;
+ Provincial governor as the commander of the provincial volunteer defence corps should prepare personnel to work in emergencies, inspect sensitive areas and support surveillance and organisation at border areas;
+ Continuously publicise and inform the people of the situation so that there is no panic and they can take action when necessary;
+ In the event of an unrest erupting that affects the safety of people in the area, the governors must report the situation to the Department of Provincial Administration as soon as possible.
