Suspect in Dr.Boon fraud case arrested, flying back from China

 

A THAI woman suspected to have helped Dr. Boon Vanasin, 86, in allegedly defrauding investors has been arrested in China and is flying back to Thailand tonight (Apr. 7).

The suspect, Ms. Thitiporn Chalermrattanaprateep, who was arrested at Guangzhou, had acted as a broker for Dr. Boon who is on the run from charges of defrauding the public and money laundering with there currently being 247 victims and losses totaling 7.5 billion baht.

 Pol. Lt. Col. Wisanu Chimtrakul, deputy director-general of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), along with Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, assistant commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police, and their team are scheduled to give a press conference at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 10 p.m. tonight.

Dr. Boon is still hiding abroad, reportedly in an Asean country, while another suspect, Ms. Kotchaporn Suwannakut, also a broker, is also still evading arrest.

Police had already arrested 13 of 16 suspects in this case including Dr. Boon’s ex-wife Mrs. Charuwan Vanasin, 79, and their daughter Ms. Nalin Vanasin, 51, who are in custody pending trial at the Central Women’s Correctional Institution in Bangkok.

Dr. Boon is the founder of Thonburi Hospital and chairman of Thonburi Healthcare Group Plc which is the owner of this private hospital chain that has seven branches both in Bangkok and the provinces.

Dr. Boon has been vocal about vaccines, especially the import of Moderna mRNA into Thailand, including criticising the government’s delay in allocating imported vaccines to Thais.
