A FEMALE Volunteer Defence Corps member narrowly escaped a car bomb blast in Pattani today (March 17) but did get injured, Naewna newspaper said.
At 10 a.m. the defence volunteer, Ms. Suriyanee Siba, managed to get out of her sedan just as a car bomb planted in her vehicle exploded at the rear with the flames spreading to the front as she was passing an old petrol station at Karubi subdistrict, Kapho district, on her way to work.
It is believed that the insurgents intended for the bomb to go off when she parked her car at Kapho District Office, but it exploded before she reached her destination.
The force of the explosion led to a fire spreading from the rear to the front of the vehicle but she was able to open the door and get out just in time before being engulfed by the flames. However she did get injured by shrapnel in the back and was taken to Khapo Hospital and later transferred to Pattani Hospital.
