AS MANY AS 7,000 victims of call centre gangs holed up along the Thai-Myanmar border are being released and sent across to Thailand on top of 261 who did so today (Feb. 12), Amarin TV said,
Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Phumthan Wechayachai said he got word of 261 scam operation victims coming across at noon today with there being approximately 7,000 waiting to do so.
The government is now coordinating with their countries to pick them up so that they are not stranded at Tak border province.
Embassies of African, Latin American, European and Asian countries have already confirmed that they are ready to take the victims back home. Among the Asian countries are Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
He also received a report from various armed forces units that the leaders of a gang that tricked Chinese actor Xingxing to work at a scam hub in Myawaddy, but who was later released, had all been arrested and will be prosecuted according to the law.
This success is the result of sealing the border with Myanmar but cutting off electricity, Internet and fuel supplies from five points to three Myanmar border townships – Tachileik, Myawaddy and Payathonzu. The Chinese government thanked Thailand for efficiently solving this problem and along with the other countries willing to take Chinese victims back home.
While the police are taking care of the 261 victims released and sent across the border today, Phumtham emphasised that the thousands more to be set free would have to be screened but not kept in Thailand with destination countries having to pick up them. If any country has a large number coming across they will send an airplane to fly them home.
