By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE MINISTRY OF DIGITAL ECONOMY & Society will be formally suggested to shut down an Indonesia-based coin hunt app. due to its illegal, online gambling activity.

Cyber police will sooner than later call on the Ministry of Digital Economy & Society to terminate the Jagat app. which has been operating without licence in Thailand and currently tempting a large number of members, mostly adolescents, to play its coin hunt games with hopes of winning awards in cash, Anukul Prueksanusak, deputy spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed today (Jan.24).

Jagat gamers may purchase some online tip-offs to the whereabouts of coins hidden in certain premises, either public or private, so they might find one and win 500 to 2,000 baht in cash award for a bronze coin, 20,000 baht for a silver coin and 200,000 baht for a gold coin.

Jagat coins saying ”Jagat – Friends by your Side” and featuring a plastic cup with a straw have been reportedly hidden at various possible spots in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, according to the cyber police.

Nevertheless, the gaming app. may have illegal access to the gamers’ locations and personal data stored in their cell phones whilst the money in their wallets may be at risk of being stolen online at any given moment, Anukul said.

Meanwhile, coin hunt players could possibly be arrested by police if they evidently trespass into private property or damage it.

If found guilty of trespassing charges, those Jagat coin hunt gamers could possibly be subject to a maximum of five years in jail or a maximum of 100,000 baht in fine or both, he said.
