Family problems led to Russian dad throwing son overboard to his death

ORDERED detained by Takua Pa provincial court today (Jan. 24) is a Russian man who threw his son into the sea from a speedboat returning from Surin islands in Phang Nga province with family problems suspected to have led to this tragic death as he was divorced from his Thai wife, Amarin TV said.

Pol. Lt. Col. Somkid Onchan, an investigator at Khura Buri police station, questioned Mr. Artem Bugorskiy, 45, who threw his 13-year-old son Lukas Bugorskiy overboard leading to him being horrifically killed by the boat’s propeller just as it was approaching Koh Ra-Koh Phra Thong, being four kilometres from the shore.

However the suspect was incoherent, only saying that he could not remember anything.

The suspect had got injured after immediately jumping into the sea upon throwing his son overboard but was rescued by the boat crew who also pulled up the dead boy’s body.

When the boat reached a pier at Phang Ng Khura Buri Foundation rescuers found the Russian man lying unconscious with wounds on his upper arms and head and quickly took him to Khura Buri Chaiphat Hospital for treatment.

However, an eyewitness said the dead boy was arguing with his father before being picked up and thrown into the sea.

Sources said the father and son had been staying at Surin Islands National Park since November and before the incident they had packed their bags and caught the speedboat to the shore.

It is believed that the son was arguing and pressuring his dad to let him return to his Thai mother which led to the suspect deciding to end both their lives.
