THAILAND will remain cooler to cold and very cold in the upper North and Northeast over the next 24 hours (till 6 a.m. tomorrow) with a slight drop in temperature and strong winds in the upper south while the mercury will drop to minimum temperature 16-19 °C in Bangkok Metropolis.
People in the northern regions and the upper southern regions are advised to take care of their health due to the cold weather and to be cautious of fire hazards that may arise from dry conditions and strong winds.
This drop in temperature is due to a strong high-pressure system and cold air mass extending over Thailand. There is also a strong northeasterly monsoon prevailing over the Gulf, the South, and the Andaman Sea with isolated thunderstorms in the lower South.
Waves in the Gulf will rise to 2-4 metres and above 4 metres in areas hit by thunderstorms. In the Andaman Sea, the waves are 1-2 metres high, 2-3 meters high offshore and above 3 metres when there is a thunderstorm. All ships in these regions should proceed with caution and keep off areas hit by heavy rain. People along the coast in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea should beware of inshore surges and boats should keep ashore until Jan. 13.
