THE SUSPECTED THAI gunman who killed a former Cambodian MP in Bangkok yesterday was arrested in Battambang today (Jan.8), police said.
Ekalak Paenoi, a former chief petty officer of the Marine Corps, was apprehended in Battambang by Thai policemen who had quietly hunted down the murder suspect and quickly brought him back to Bangkok for interrogation after the lone gunman had shot dead Lim Kimya, the former Khmer MP, on a street in Banglampu area of the Thai capital yesterday.
The suspected gunman who did not resist his arrest at a foodshop in Battambang had travelled on a natural border path to slip into the neighbouring country whilst an unidentified Khmer national who was suspected to have quietly followed the murder victim from Cambodia and pointed him out for the gunman has reportedly flown back to Phnom Penh and remained at large.
The ex-Marine gunman was believed to have been hired by an unknown person to kill the ex-Khmer lawmaker who had travelled to the Thai capital by bus from Siem Reap.
