COMMOTION erupted at “Miss Grand International 2024” beauty pageant today (Oct. 26) with the Myanmar national director grabbing and removing the crown and sash from his country’s contestant after she was named second-runner with Miss India Rachel Gupta having won the contest, Naewna newspaper said.
The first runner-up is Miss Grand Philippines Christine Juliane Opiaza, second runner-up Miss Grand Myanmar Thae Su Nyein, third runner-up Miss Grand France Safietou Kabenguele and fourth runner-up Miss Grand Brazil Talita Hartmann, Amarin TV said.
There are five fifth runners-up as follows: Miss Grand Spain, Miss Grand Peru, Miss Grand Indonesia, Miss Grand Dominican Republic and Miss Grand England.
However moments after the winning beauties were crowned, the Myanmar national director, clearly angry at the decision, marched on to the stage and snatched Miss Grand Myanmar’s crown and sash and was about to throw it but another team member who came with him grabbed them.
A TikTok member who was sitting right up front said Thae Su Nyein was then quickly led out of the hall and immediately left without giving an interview.
Later a Facebook user, E-Sor Khayee Khao, posted a video clip of the drama on stage with the caption: “The moment when the ND of Myanmar snatched and removed the crown from the beauty contestant’s head … after being dissatisfied with her being named second runner-up in MGI 2024.”
As news of this incident spread on social media many people said something like this should not have happened and that they were waiting for an explanation from Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil, CEO of Miss Grand International Plc.
