A SPEEDBOAT TAKING a group of tourists on a tour off Krabi rescued three other tourists who were struggling in the sea without the support of life jackets after their long-tail boat had capsized near Phi Phi Le island, Amarin TV said this afternoon (July 14).
Speedboat crew members had to swim to the three tourists, two adults and one child, who were hanging on to the hull of their capsized boat to give them life jackets to wear then used a rope to pull them to their own vessel.
Meanwhile officials at Haad Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park have put red flags at various marine tourists spots, such as Koh Mai Phai island and Talay Waek, to warn tourists to not swim in the sea while gearing up to rescue seafarers should their vessels capsize in stormy weather.
Krabi’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has warned people living in disaster-prone areas to watch out for floods and mudslides during July 13-18 as a strong southwesterly monsoon in the Andaman Sea and a low pressure trough will bring heavy to very heavy rain, with previous heavy downpour having already waterlogged the soil.
Those living near rivers and canals were told to prepare to move their belongings and pets to safer areas.
As waves will be two to three metres during the next few days small boats should not leave the shore.
