PM shocked at deputy minister’s cousin being held for drugs

PRIME MINISTER Srettha Thavisin said this morning (June 11) he was shocked to hear that a cousin of Deputy Interior Minister Chada Thaiset had been arrested on drug charges, Amarin TV and Thai Rath newspaper said.

Speaking to reporters at Government House, the prime minister said he had not met Chada today as he had taken leave from the weekly cabinet meeting to attend a religious ceremony in Saudi Arabia.

He added that legal procedure is already in place and Chada would not have any special privileges with everything having to proceed according to the law.

At 10.30 p.m. last night a team of Metropolitan Division 1 police raided  a room at a hotel in an alley off New Petchburi road and arrested Mr. Narset Thaiset, Mr. Kitja Chulmusit, Ms. Wallis Thasanaekchit and Ms. Anjaliporn Mueangkaew after finding six bags of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and an 11mm pistol plus six bullets in their possession.

It was reported that Narset is the Deputy Interior Minister’s first cousin with their fathers being brothers.

Police had mounted the raid after being tipped off that a drug party was taking place at this hotel.

The suspects have been charged with illegal possession and use of class 1 narcotics (Ice) with Narset slapped with an additional charge of possessing and carrying a firearm in public without a permit.
