American, Russian men die in fall from Pattaya hotel, condo

AN AMERICAN man fell to his death from the seventh floor of a hotel in  Pattaya early this morning (June 4) while a Russian man plunged to his death from the 29th floor of a 35-storey condo at noon yesterday, TV Channel 7 and Amarin TV said.

At 6 a.m. Pol. Maj. Wutinan Kongdee, an inspector at Pattaya city police station, was alerted to a guest at a hotel in Thappraya Soi 15, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, having fallen from a high floor and quickly went there with a police team and some rescuers to investigate.

At the scene they found the body of Mr. Michael Jeffry Bruggink, 43,  an American citizen, dead at the hotel’s parking lot which is around a metre away from the building.

Police checked his hotel room on the seventh floor and did not find any sign of struggle nor were any of his belongings missing. However there was some marijuana there as well as a few syringes.

A security guard said no one there knew how the American man fell down the building and what time this occurred. During his security round early in the morning he saw him lying on the ground as if asleep but when he got closer he saw he was very still so he quickly called the police.

Pol. Maj. Wutinan said the American likely slipped or jumped from the balcony at the rear of his hotel room but the cause of his death is being investigated with his relatives to be contacted and questioned.

Also having plunged to his death from a high-rise condo on Thep Prasit road, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, at noon yesterday was a Russian man only identified as Mr. Roman, 38.

Pol. Lt. Col. Saijai Khamchulla, an inspector at Pattaya city police station, quickly went there with a team of policemen and rescuers to investigate.

A security guard told them that the Russian man was a resident at this condo and before falling to his death he was seen walking around looking drunk.

While there was no sign of struggle in his unit, witnesses told police that he had earlier called a real estate agent asking to postpone paying the rent because his credit card had been cancelled.

A background check showed that last April he had been charged with molesting a masseuse at a Thai massage parlour with the case having just ended a few days ago.

Police think the Russian man might have been stressed and thus jumped down the building.
