A MAN who slashed a woman’s cheek at the parking lot of a department store in Rangsit area in a robbery attempt last evening (May 6) was arrested soon afterwards at another shopping mall in Pathum Thani area, Amarin TV said last night.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Kantinan Kulsriroj, 46, was arrested with a 30cm knife in his possession hiding in the rear seat of his wife’s sedan parked at the nearby shopping mall.
Pol. Lt. Col. Wichaya Pan-ngam, an inspector at Chulalongkorn Pratunam provincial police station, said they had been alerted of Ms. Jutharat (surname withheld), 36, being assaulted in an attempt to snatch her handbag and steal her Mercedes Benz sedan and were able to quickly track him down by going through surveillance camera clips.
The suspect has confessed that he quarrelled with his wife and left home two days ago and was also addicted to gambling so attempted to commit this robbery.
He had called his wife to come and drive the car out of the shopping mall but police found him before she got there.
Jutharat told police that she had just got into her car when the attacker came up and told her he had a knife and to move to the passenger seat.
As she saw two men smoking cigarettes nearby she shouted for help with this leading to the attacker stabbing her in the stomach but fortunately the knife hit the waistband of her pants and she did not get wounded.
He then pushed her to the passenger seat but she accidently blared the horn which startled him and he slashed her cheek and grabbed her handbag and dashed off. However she chased him and pulled her handbag back from him.
