IN INVESTIGATING whether any policemen in Phuket were involved in the case about a Swiss businessman who allegedly kicked a female doctor Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum said a senior policeman seen in a couple of photos socialising with him is just a friend of a friend, TV Channel 7 said this evening (Mar. 4).
This policeman’s friend took him to join Mr. Urs Fehr, or David, 45, for drinks and photos were then taken, he explained.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert added that he had ordered Thalang police station to check whether any policemen were close to Fehr and were involved in this case but initial investigation showed none were connected with him.
He confirmed that police will be fair to both parties with investigation having started from when Dr. Thandao Chandam, attached to Dibuk Hospital, filed a complaint accusing the Swiss businessman of having kicked her as she sat watching the moon on the steps leading from his villa to Phuket’s Cape Yamu beach on the night Feb. 29.
Police investigators have now filed charges of assault against Fehr which he has denied with investigators in the process of questioning two more eyewitnesses.
As for Police Region 8 Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapong Thanomchit having ordered Phuket police to find out whether there are foreigners who have come to work in Phuket and have ganged up to threaten both fellow foreigners and Thais, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert said preliminary investigation showed none had done this.
There have only been some cases of foreigners stealing jobs from Thais.
The most recent case involving foreigners was a robbery committed by five Russians with the suspects having all been arrested.
