MORE THAN 20,000 smuggled fresh eggs and poultry meat plus other items were seized from a pickup that had just crossed the border from Cambodia to Arayanprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, last night (Feb. 19), Naewna newspaper said today.
Pol. Col. Anothai Jindamanee, superintendent of Khlong Luek police station, said a team of policemen intercepted the pickup truck at around 7.30 p.m. after the Immigration Division of Provincial Police Region 3 was tipped off about the smuggling attempt via natural channels.
Arrested at kilometre 5 of a road heading towards Aranyaprathet subdistrict was the driver of this pickup truck with a high roof frame Mr. Chakkrit (surname withheld), 49, who admitted to the smuggling charges.
Seized were 21,000 fresh duck eggs with 700 of them about to hatch, poultry meat, as well as many other contraband products including 20 crates (480 cans) each of an energy drink and String brand soft drink, one crate of Boot Strong brand soft drink (24 cans), three trays of Champion brand soft drink (72 cans) and one tray of Work brand soft drink (24 cans).
Also seized were 232 jars of VIP Cambodia brand pickled liquor, 80 cans of fermented fish, eight trays of Ganzberg brand beer (192 cans) and four trays of ABC brand beer (96 cans).
There were also five psychotropic substances in this pickup truck including five boxes of Alprazolam 0.5mg, two boxes of Diazepam p.p.m. 10mg, five boxes of Lexopam 6mg, two boxes of Zepam 10mg and five boxes of Xanax 0.50mg.
Additionally medicines containing Codeine, which is a category 3 drug, were seized with these being three boxes of Kinal Codeine, five boxes of Tussipax, and three boxes of Dicodin LP 60mg. There were also nine other modern medicines, totaling 78 boxes, being smuggled.
