Hun Sen set to visit Thaksin at home tomorrow

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

FORMER CAMBODIAN PRIME minister Hun Sen is scheduled to visit de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra tomorrow (Feb.21), a police source said.

Hun Sen is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok from Phnom Penh mid-morning and pay an informal visit to Thaksin at his Chan Song Lah residence on the Thonburi side of Bangkok until about 2.00 p.m. tomorrow, the police source said.

The former Cambodian prime minister known as personally close to his former Thai counterpart since the last few decades seems to be the first VIP guest to see the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole since he departed Police Hospital on Sunday after spending a six-month period with “critical illnesses” to legally serve his curtailed, one-year sentence outside of a prison for convicted counts of misconduct perpetrated during his previous rule.

Since Thaksin returned to his house on Sunday, nobody other than his family members including his former spouse Potjaman na Pombejra has visited him as yet.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Police have mapped out security measures during Hun Sen’s scheduled visit at Thaksin’s home tomorrow no matter if any demonstrators might possibly gather just outside or in the neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General is legally obliged to resolve on April 10 as to whether to proceed with a lese majeste lawsuit against the deposed Thai prime minister in court or simply drop it or probably delay making the decision beyond that date.

The politically powerful de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole has been earlier charged with violating the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, whilst giving an interview with a news agency in South Korea in 2015, marking the first anniversary of the coup staged by army chief-turned-prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to oust his sister/former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

His verbal statements made during the interview had been considered by police and public prosecutors as allegedly tantamount to lese majeste content.
