AS MANY AS 115 gamblers were rounded up in a raid on an illegal casino in Nakhon Si Thammarat with a six-wheel truck having to make three trips to take them all to court today (Jan. 12), Amarin TV said.
Acting on instruction by Deputy Interior Minister Chada Thaised who had received complaints from residents of this southern province that a casino on Saphan Yao road, Nakhon Si Thammarat city, is running round-the-clock, a team of Provincial Administration Department officials and provincial police raided it at 4 p.m. yesterday.
The casino was set up in a warehouse within a large compound surrounded by two-and-a-half-metre high walls. Aside from the 115 gamblers, six others too had been arrested but as they denied the charge they had been bailed out.
Seized during the raid were over one million baht in cash and various gambling equipment.
Today Nakhon Si Thammarat police mounted tight security in taking the large number of gamblers to court in a six-wheel truck with a police patrol car leading it and three motorcycles following behind. It took three trips to transfer this many gamblers to court.
