NATIONAL Police Chief Pol.Gen. Torsak Sukwimon this afternoon (Nov. 13) said he does not agree with bringing Chinese police to patrol Thailand and ensure safety of Chinese tourists because this would be a violation of Thailand’s sovereignty, Thai News Agency and MNG Online said.
The police chief stated his viewpoint on this issue after holding talks with Move Forward MP and Chairman of House Security Affairs Committee Rangsiman Rome.
Thai police have sufficient capacity to take care of citizens and tourists, he said, adding that Chinese police cannot come to Thailand because national security is at stake with the Thai police not having proposed such an idea.
Pol.Gen. Torsak also said there was probably miscommunication and that he had not received an order to deploy Chinese police here from any agency including Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
A meeting with the Chinese embassy’s police attache on Nov. 15 is taking place to help build confidence among Chinese tourists in coming to holiday in Thailand.
Rangsiman told reporters the committee will be sending a letter to the government to clarify this issue in writing.
“This could mean that in future there will be police from many other countries patrolling in Thailand as well. It will ruin the image of the Thai police force – we must work together to strengthen our police force to ensure safety for tourists,” Rangsiman said.
