Chadchart arranging street dancing space after Thai troupe shines at competition


BANGKOK Governor Chadchart Sittipunt today (Nov. 4) congratulated the Thai youth troupe that won 13 world champion titles at an international street dance competition held in the UK last August and said he is preparing space in the capital for people to show their talent, said.

Teams from 24 countries participated in the UDO World Street Dance Championships 2022 held at Blackpool, UK, during August 11-14. They competed in the following categories:

– Solos 

– Duos

– Trioquads

– Battles (Hiphop, All Styles, Breakin & Popping)

– Teams

– Supercrews

– Parent Teams 

– Ultimate Advanced Teams

The Thai troupe won altogether 36 prizes with 13 being the first prize in the following categories:

–  Ultimate Advanced

– Supercrew

– Team under 12

– Solo under 12

– Solo under 16

– Solo under 18

– Solo over 18

– Breakin over 16

– All styles under 12

– Duo under 12

– Duo under 16

– Duo under 18

– Duo over 18

The team Planet Lock won the 1st prize in Ultimate Advanced category, the biggest prize at the event with this being 10,000 pounds. G-Dat Boogie came first in the Super Crew category (18-40 dancers) while Bloc D Jr. team also came first in the Under 12 category.

Chadchart said their success is something to be proud of both for himself as representative of Bangkok and the country as a whole.

He added that he wants to promote this type of activity as it is good for health and allows creativity to flow.

While we may not be dancing for the rest of our lives doing so instils discipline and promotes assertiveness which are the basis of many other professions, he added.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is going to provide space for people to express themselves and there may be a Bangkok Cup competition in future, he said.
