A MAN who borrowed 5,000 baht from a loan shark for a female friend who had to repay it with 20 percent interest at 250 baht a day for 24 days was slashed on his head twice by debt collectors after she missed two instalments, TV Channel 7 said today (Mar. 13)
The unidentified 44-year-old man who lives in Waeng subdistrict, Phon Thong district, Roi Et province, said two tall and big-built debt collectors drove up to his house at 5.30 p.m. on Mar. 7 and called him out for a discussion.
They told him that they could not contact Ms. A (assumed name) for whom he borrowed money from their boss after she missed two instalments in a row.
The man told the debt collectors that he did not have enough money to clear her debt. Just then he felt a hard object hit his head and he fainted and fell to the ground.
When he came round again he was in the hospital with two large wounds on his head, one requiring 15 stitches and the other 17, altogether 32 stitches.
He said he just left the hospital today and had reported the attack to Phon Thong police station to track down the two debt collectors.
He pointed out that he did not take the small underground loan for himself but for Ms A. who could not herself get it. Although debt collectors could not contact her they should not have slashed him this badly.
A 20-year-old neighbour said on the day of the attack he was sleeping in his house but suddenly woke up upon hearing someone calling for help. He went out and saw the two big men quickly drive away in their pickup truck. He dashed to the front of his neighbour’s house and upon seeing him lying in a pool of blood called for an ambulance to take him to Phon Thong Hospital for treatment.
