6 infected European tourists disappear from Koh Chang hotel

SIX European tourists who entered Thailand via Test & Go procedure but later tested positive for coronavirus at Koh Chang disappeared from their hotel on the island with the authorities unable to contact them for the past two to three day, Sanook.com said today (Jan. 8).

Meanwhile the Public Health Ministry said this morning that there were 8,263 Covid cases and 14 deaths over the past 24 hours, up from 7,526 cases yesterday but fatalities dipped from 19.

Mr. Chanchai Phacharavarangkun, Koh Chang’s acting district officer, said the six tourists underwent Covid test at Koh Chang Hospital on Jan. 4 and all tested positive but as they have disappeared he asked Mr. Decha Pralomrim, assistant district officer, to inform the police and track them.

He has also informed all hotels and resorts on the island to alert the authorities if they know of their whereabouts as they could spread the infection.

However, a detailed investigation revealed that these tourists have left the island and may have either gone to Pattaya or Bangkok.

The six tourists were identified as  Mr.Arnaud Cachia, 32, from France; Mr. Romain Thiauld Gretten, 32, from France; Mr.Marek Zbignien Bonleckl, 65, from Poland;  Mr.Oleheming Borgem Kolstad, 38, from Norway; Mr. Krause Dariusz Tomasz, 51, from Poland; and Mr. Johan Debernardi, 31, from Switzerland.

Today’s 8,263 Covid cases raised the cumulative confirmed total since April 1, 2021 to 2,232,176 and since the start of the pandemic 2,261,039.

The 14 fatalities increased the death toll to 21,813.

Another 2,865 patients were cured taking total recoveries since April 1, 2021 to 2,163,836 with 47,964 patients still undergoing treatment.

Of today’s batch of 8,263 patients 7,584 emerged in the surveillance and healthcare systems, 218 were found through proactive search in communities, 110 fell sick in prisons and detention centres while 351 foreign arrivals tested positive.
