TWO MAJOR PARTIES ARE currently vying to recruit famed comic monk Phra Maha Sompong Talaputto into their camp if he should disrobes himself from Buddhism anytime soon.
Palang Pracharath and Pheu Thai parties have been openly wooing the monk who is largely reputed for his hilarious preaching of Buddhist values and claimed to have planned to defrock himself later this month to follow suit of former monk Praiwan Wannaboot who had shared Soi Thong temple in Bang Sue district of Bangkok with him.
However, it remains to be seen whether Phra Maha Sompong will eventually go through the disrobement of himself as proclaimed anytime soon since he has already rescheduled it twice.
Palang Pracharath MP Sira Jenjaka recommended the monk, known for his preaching in the style of stand-up comics, join the largest coalition partner in government because, the legislator said, he could be of much help with the ruling party’s social affairs rather than join the opposition bloc.
Pheu Thai MP Wan Yoobamrung said he has enthusiastically welcomed Phra Maha Sompong’s idea to join his party and offered to arrange for a meeting between Pheu Thai Party leader Chonlanan Srikaew and the comic monk after he disrobes himself.
Wan quoted the comic monk as saying he would be interested to join the ranks of the opposition party’s spokespersons.
The hilarious Praiwan who had drawn over 200,000 Facebook and Youtube viewers to his live streamings during his monkhood has earlier said he will by no means get involved in politics.
