Police capture escaped Covid patient on Motorway

A COVID positive woman who escaped from a field hospital in Chanthaburi province at midnight Saturday July 3 was caught on the Motorway while travelling to Bangkok in a van from Rayong around 12 hours later, Sanook.com said today (July 4).

This woman had been admitted to the field hospital at Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University Stadium, Mueang district, Chanthaburi, after she tested positive for coronavirus on June 27 upon being pushed back to Thailand from Cambodia where she was working.

Surveillance cameras show that around midnight Saturday she changed her clothes and fled the field hospital heading straight for the provincial bus station.

At 4.45 a.m. she caught a bus to Rayong, arriving at Ban Phe pier at 8 a.m.

She then took a motorcycle taxi to Rayong city centre where she caught a van to Bangkok with there being altogether 10 passengers.

At 12.36 p.m. Highway Police intercepted the van at kilometre six of the Motorway as it was approaching Bangkok.

At 4.45 p.m. the same day this woman was taken back to the field hospital in Chanthaburi from where she had escaped to continue her treatment. However she will be facing legal action after she recovers.
