Surat Thani only has one case today but nationwide 2,804 new cases

 

SOUTHERN Surat Thani province reported its best result in two months and 11 days this morning (June 13) with only one coronavirus case emerging in the past 24 hours but nationwide there were 2,804 new cases, Siam Rath newspaper said.

Among the southern provinces Nakhon Si Thammarat province had the highest number of cases today with this totalling 93, followed by Phang Nga with 15.

Yet Phuket, Ranong, Krabi and Chumphon provinces had no cases today.

Surat Thani officials are currently proactively screening vendors at Kobkan market and around Wat Phra Yok temple after a flower vendor was confirmed to be infected.

People in this province were also happy after an 80-year-old woman, Ms Yuen Kongthawee, who has several underlying diseases still managed to recover from coronavirus. She had been treated at Surat Thani and Ban Na San hospitals for 25 days.

Meanwhile the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said today that nationwide there were 2,804 new cases over the past 24 hours and 18 more fatalities taking the death toll in the current wave that began in April to 1,355 and since the start of the pandemic last year 1,449.

Of the new batch of cases, 1,567 emerged in surveillance and service systems, 767 found through proactive search in communities, 409 appeared in prisons and detention centres while 61 overseas arrivals were infected.

This took the cumulative confirmed total in the current wave to 167,046 and since the start of the pandemic 195,909.

Another 4,143 patients were cured, taking total recoveries in the current wave to 126,988 and since the start of the pandemic 154,414, with 40,046 patients still under treatment.

Bangkok continues to have the highest number of cases with today’s total being 924, taking the city’s cumulative confirmed total to  43,185, while there were 12 fatalities.

Meanwhile the total in five provinces surrounding Bangkok excluding prisons is 591 cases, adding up to 30,517 in all, with there being one fatality.

In the remaining 71 provinces, excluding prisons, there were 819 cases today, with the cumulative total being 49,706, and five fatalities.

Today’s 409 cases in prisons and detention centres took the overall total to 32,357, but there were no fatalities.
