Daily Covid count still high at 1,443, Bangkok has 350 new cases

THE Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said late this morning (April 20) that there were 1,443 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours with Bangkok topping the list with 350 new patients which raised its total to 3,965 , TV Channel 7 said.

CCSA’s spokesman Dr. Taweesilp Visanuyothin said this new wave of infection has now spread to 68 provinces, up from  65 yesterday.

While Bangkok topped today’s worst-hit provinces list, Chiang Mai came next with 116 new cases raising its total to 2,366; Chonburi is in the third place with 82 new cases adding up to 1,362; Prachuab Khiri Khan is next with 41 new cases and its total is now 813; they are followed Samut Prakan with 60 new cases totaling 748; and Nonthaburi with 23 new cases adding up to 724.

Today’s 1,443 Covid cases raised the cumulative confirmed total to 45,185 with 16,177 patients infected during April 1-20, 2021.

An additional 171 patients were cured in the past day adding up to 28,958 who have now recovered. Altogether 16,119 patients are still undergoing treatment, with 13,169 in hospitals and 2,950 in field hospitals and other places.

There were four additional deaths raising the toll to 108 with all four fatalities occurring in Bangkok.

All of today’s cases were domestic except for two overseas arrivals who were quarantined. Altogether 1,328  new cases emerged in service systems while 113 were found through proactive search in communities. Most of the cases were still linked to entertainment venue clusters in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chonburi.
