Covid count again above 900, pub cases climb in Chonburi

THE Public Health Ministry said late this morning (April 12) that there were 985 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours while Chonburi revealed that nearly half of its 97 new cases were linked to various entertainment venues, said,

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said the new batch of cases raised the cumulative confirmed total to 33,610.

However 28,248 patients have been cured while 5,265 are still hospitalized. There were no additional fatalities with the toll remaining at 97.

Only five overseas arrivals were either hospitalized or quarantined with the remaining cases being domestic. Altogether 634 voluntarily went to the hospital for treatment while 346 cases were found through proactive search in communities.

Meanwhile Chonburi’s Covid-19 Operation Centre said this morning that almost half of 97 cases the province logged today were linked to various entertainment venues with the cluster at Flintstone pub growing to 125 after 16 more people fell sick.

Results of 1,360 people tested during proactive search are still awaited.

Details of coronavirus infection at other entertainment venues is as follows:

  • Class 99 pub, Mueang Chonburi, four cases;
  •  Voice Bar, one Japanese citizen infected;
  • Symphony, Sriracha, one case;
  • The Box 69 Pattaya, Banglamung district, two cases;
  • Cetus Club Pattaya, Bang Lamung district, four cases;
  •  Friend Zone, Rayong, three cases;
  • Mix Pub, Rayong, three cases:
  • Six fell sick after close contact with infected individuals who had visited a Bangkok pub;
  • An employee of Top One pub in Bangkok fell sick.
