THE Crime Suppression Division police today (March 10) arrested a suspected gunman for whose capture 100,000 baht bounty had been offered after he had been on the run for 12 years in the murder of man in Phetchabun province, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Mr. Boonmee Srikhamkhib, 65, was finally tracked down in Samut Sakhon province where he had been working as a security guard.
Police said Phetchabun Provincial Court had issued a warrant for his arrest over a murder that occurred in 2009. Seven members of the gang had been captured earlier with Boonmee being the last one to be apprehended.
The gang had been hired by Mrs Yai (assumed name) to kill her brother-in-law Mr Wichai (surname withheld) in order to get 6 million baht insurance payment from five companies with a total 12 policies taken out.
The murder was to be disguised as a car accident but the gang failed in this attempt. They then decided to gun down the victim and then go their separate ways.
Police said Boonmee was the head of the gang and planned the murder. They added that he ranked 53rd on their blacklist of known gunmen.
However Boonmee has denied the charges.
