Gambling tycoon arrested in early morning raid

WELL-KNOWN gambling tycoon Apirak “Sia Poh” Chaianon was arrested at 6 a.m. this morning (Feb. 4) in a raid mounted by Crime Suppression Division police’s Hanuman SWAT (special weapons and tactics) unit together with officers from Technology Crime Suppression Division, Siam Rath newspaper reported.

The police team arrested the tycoon under a warrant issued by the Criminal Court on the charges of arranging and providing online gambling at a commercial building on Petchkasem Road, Bang Wa subdistrict, Phasi Charoen district.

The suspect was taken to the Crime Suppression Division office for interrogation with National Police Chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk personally questioning him from 10.30 a.m. onwards.
