Two more Tachileik-linked coronavirus cases appear in Bangkok

THE Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced at 11 a.m. today (Dec. 6) that there are 14 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours with two of them emerging in Bangkok, Sanook.com reported.

The 14 new cases took the total to 4,086 with 3,853 patients having recovered and 173 still undergoing treatment. Death toll remains unchanged at 60.

A little later the Public Health Ministry’s Disease Control Department revealed that the two Bangkok cases, a 26-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man (transgender), had both visited Myanmar’s border town Tachilek, just across the border from Mae Sot in Chiang Rai province. This is where 1G1 Hotel is located with around 180 Thais working there and is where most of the new cross-border cases came from.

There were five high-risk and 10 low-risk exposure to these two new patients.

The timeline of their movements is as follows:

Male, aged 30, (onset of illness Nov. 30, 2020)

Nov. 6:

– Flew from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Mae Fah Luang Airport in Chiang Rai;

Nov. 6-27:

– Stayed at entertainment places in Tachileik, Myanmar, crossing back to Thailand

on Nov. 27 and stayed at a hotel in Mae Sai district;

Nov. 28:

– 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Went shopping at the market and in the evening went for a walk along Mae Sai’s walking street;

Nov. 29:

– In the morning went to Wat Phra That Doi Wao then had lunch at Mae Sai market;

Nov. 30:

– (Sickness, low fever) stayed in the hotel till afternoon, then took a taxi to Mae Fah Luang Airport (wore a face mask);

– In the evening, flew back to Bangkok on Lion Air flight SL545, from 7.15 p.m. to 8 p.m.,  upon arrival at Don Mueang Airport took a taxi back home;

Dec. 1-3:

– Stayed home throughout;

Dec. 4:

– Went for a checkup at the Tropical Medicine Hospital (by private car) found to be infected with Covid-19.

Nov. 6: 

– Flew from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Mae Fah Luang Airport in Chiang Rai province;

Nov. 6-27:

– Stayed at entertainment places in Tachileik, Myanmar, crossing back to Thailand

on Nov. 27 and stayed at a hotel in Mae Sai district;

Nov. 28:

– 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Went shopping at the market and in the evening went for a walk along Mae Sai’s walking street;

Nov. 29:

– In the morning, went to Wat Phra That Doi Wao;

– In the evening flew to Bangkok on Thai Smile flight WE137. Took a taxi to a hotel in Bangkok upon arrival and went to a convenience store;

Nov. 30 – Dec. 3:

– Stayed in the hotel throughout except for shopping at convenience store;

Dec. 4: 

– Accompanied first patient to the Hospital for Tropical Medicine;

Dec. 5:

– Went to the same hospital in a taxi and tested positive for coronavirus.
