A YOUNG man in southern Krabi province is in the intensive care unit after severely injuring his left arm while playing with a ping pong bomb at his girlfriend’s house before dawn this morning (Oct. 5), Channel 7 News reported.
Mr. Thanakorn, 26, was rushed to Krabi Hospital at 5 a.m. by an ambulance sent Krabi Pitak Pracha Foundation, which said in a post on its fan page that ambulance staff saw blood splattered all over the room with the man’s left arm bleeding profusely from a large wound that showed a broken bone.
Neighbours said that some of them were taking an early morning walk when they heard a loud explosion coming from this house. They initially thought a gas cylinder might have exploded because this family cooks confectionery for sale.
They added that they only realised someone was injured after the ambulance showed up, this is because this family tends to keep a distance from the rest of the community. However they mentioned that the injured man is likely the boyfriend of the owner’s daughter.
Pol. Col. Narong Launavimol, head of Mueang Krabi police station, said the family did not notify them about the accidental explosion but preliminary examination revealed that the blast likely occurred while the injured man was playing with the ping pong bomb.
As he is in serious condition and awaiting surgery at Krabi Hospital ICU, police investigators will only later question him about what happened and his offense for having an explosive in his possession.
