Police swoop on big gang of street racers

POLICE broke up a major street race on Motorway Route 7 at 1.45 a.m. this morning (August 29) with around a hundred cars and motorcycles lined up for a two-kitometre stretch to speed down the outbound side to Chonburi, Thai Rath newspaper reported.

Pol. Capt. Niphol Lumnoi, deputy inspector at Highway Police Station 1, was alerted of the illegal race as other motorists were inconvenienced by their large gathering and headed there with his team after alerting the Highway 7 Rescue Service.

However as soon as the racers spotted the Highway police team they quickly scattered with most speeding down Rom Klao road but some teenage motorcyclists carried their motorbikes to the other side of the Motorway before zooming away.

Nevertheless the police team did manage to arrest some teenage racers and seized four racing trucks and three motorcycles.

The arrested teens told police that the motorcycles were brought the venue on pickup trucks and the race was announced via social media but the post was very quickly deleted.
