A BAD accident led to temporary closure of inbound lanes of Sukhumvit Soi 71 road and Klong Tan intersection last night (July 7) after a trailer truck lost control in heavy rain and knocked down six power poles, INN News reported.
A sedan, a pickup truck and a motorcycle following the 18-wheel trailer truck all got damaged on this road, just before Klong Tan intersection.
Those who saw the accident said as the as the trailer truck came down the bridge it lost control at the last stretch of the ramp and hit one power pole very hard. After that this pole fell to the ground pulling the other five along with it. Sparks flew and then a big blast was heard which led to power cut in a radius of 50 metres.
The driver, Mr. Chaovalert, 39, told police that he was driving the big truck from Om Noi in Samut Sakhon district to Bangkok’s Saphan Sung district but the driving rain led to him losing control at the last stretch of the ramp and hitting the power pole and causing it to collapse.
Officials from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority quickly came to make repairs and police shut the traffic in the area for the removal of the poles and the trailer truck.
